Training Camp - Week 1

Hello friends, family and Buff fans!
Hope this finds you all well as football season is fast approaching. I’m going through a very exciting time in my life, starting with my marriage to my beautiful wife, Mia, in Telluride,
I’ve been given an excellent opportunity here to share some of my experiences with all of you in the form of a blog which I will be writing periodically as my busy schedule allows. I hope to keep you all updated on some of the things an NFL rookie goes through in his first training camp.
As most of you know I was fortunate enough to be drafted by the
We reported to training camp on Thursday night and had basic team meetings telling us what camp would be like and all of the do’s and don’ts. Our camp is being held in
It has been awesome coming in and seeing players like Ray Lewis and Steve McNair, although I haven’t really been as star struck as I thought I might. I had the fortune of being able to be around and meet a lot of NFL players when I was at
One of the things that has caught my attention the most is all the nice cars I pull up next to in the parking lot. When I get out of my old truck I’m surrounded by Land Rovers, BMWs, Hummers, you name it.
Friday and Saturday we had our first two-a-day practices and it was hot! The humidity here is unbelievable. Practices both days went really well. I can’t say that I’ve really had a “welcome to the NFL moment,” but there have certainly been a few highlights. I caught my first touchdown of camp from Kyle Boller to end practice on Friday.
Being able to practice with and learn from a veteran guy like Pro Bowler Todd Heap, one of the best tight ends in the NFL, and Daniel Wilcox has been awesome. They have both helped me out tremendously. All of the veterans have been really good to me in showing me the ropes and acquainting me with the NFL.
Saturday night I ate dinner with McNair, my old teammate from CU, Justin Bannan, Ed Reed, Drew Olson and a few other teammates. That was a great experience. I just sat there and listened to what they had to say and tried to soak in and learn as much as possible from these guys.
Well, that’s pretty much a wrap. Sunday we had the day off, which will be the case most weeks. Today we have our first practice in full pads which I have really been looking forward to. We should have some evenings off here and there, so I hope to be able to catch everyone up on my happenings as much as possible.
Until then, I’ll be hard at work here and trying to keep up on how my CU boys are doing.
Go Buffs and of course, go Ravens!
Thanks for reading, everybody! I’ll be checking back in soon!
