CU Football Season Honors Complete
BOULDER GÇô University of Colorado senior captain Thaddaeus Washington was one of 25 players named to the GÇ£All-MaydayGÇ¥ Team, completing the honor roll for the 2006 football Buffaloes.
The team is selected by ESPN analyst Mark May, who accepts nominations for the toughest of the tough in college football, those players and a coach who overcame nasty injuries or severe adversity.  Washington suffered two cracked front teeth in the first half of the Kansas State game on Nov. 4, yet returned that same game and played in CUGÇÖs final two games thereafter.  He needed oral surgery the Tuesday after suffering the in injury.

Penn State head coach Joe Paterno was also on his team, as the 80-year old long-time Nittany Lion coach suffered a broken leg late in the season but still attended games in the press box.
Other honors released in late December included the annual Sporting News Freshman All-American team, with three Buffaloes named to the prestigious team.  P Matt DiLallo earned first-team status, as he was the top freshman punter in the nation with a 43.7 average (the only one in the top 40 overall); he set CU freshman records for average and long punt.  TE Riar Geer earned second-team honors, with ILB Michael Sipili named to the honorable mention team.  DiLallo and Geer were redshirt freshmen, while Sipili was a true frosh; only four true freshman played in games for the Buffaloes in 2006, as most of the class was redshirted.
Other highlights include PK Mason Crosby, who became the seventh player in school history to be named first-team all-conference three times; he joined G Joe Romig (1959-60-61), P Barry Helton (1985-86-87), SS Mickey Pruitt (1985-86-87), OLB Kanavis McGhee (1988-89-90), CB Chris Hudson (1992-93-94) and CB/KR Ben Kelly (1997-98-99).  Crosby was also CUGÇÖs first two-time All-American since WR Michael Westbrook (1992-94), and the first in back-to-back seasons since OG Joe Garten and OLB Alfred Williams (both in 1989-90).  CB Terrence Wheatley was CUGÇÖs first all-league defensive back since SS Michael Lewis was so honored in 2001 (last cornerback was Kelly in 1999), while DE Abraham Wright was the first defensive end/outside linebacker since OLB Ron Woolfork in 1993.
