Pifer Advances To Finals In Mile

Pifer clocked a time of 4:00.49 and took second in his heat and second overall. It was the second fasted time recorded in CU history, only behind Pifer’s school record of 3:59.55. Last year he took fifth in the mile, clocking a time of 4:14.81. Russell Brown of Stanford won the prelims with a time of 4:00.19.
“Stephen led his heat the whole way until the last 20 or 30 meters,” head coach Mark Wetmore said. “He felt really well. He automatically advanced to the finals tomorrow.”
Ryan Campbell, took 14th in the 200-meter dash. He recorded the third-best time in CU history with 21.14 mark.
“Ryan Campbell ran well in his heat, his second fastest time of the year, but unfortunately others ran very, very fast and he did not advance,” Wetmore said. “But still, for his first time in the NCAA and on a banked track, he had a good run and we are really proud of him.”
Brent Vaughn did not complete his race in the 5k. Chris Solinsky of
“Brent Vaughn dropped out of the men’s 5,000-meters,” Wetmore explained. “Within the first couple of laps, someone clipped his shoe and it came off and he was running with one shoe and one bare foot. The bare foot became to blister badly and rather than tear up his foot and further, he dropped out. It was just an accident of the race due to unfortunate circumstance.”
