Colorado Inks a Pair for 2009
BOULDER ?Colorado Head Volleyball Coach Pi’i Aiu has announced the signing of two prep athletes, Nicole (Nikki) Kinzer and Kerra (Boo) Schroeder, to the 2009 roster.
Kinzer hails from Colorado Springs, Colo., where she was a middle blocker at Rampart High School. The Rams earned a 24-6 record her senior season. She recorded 377 kills and 105 blocks that year. Kinzer was named the Colorado Springs Big Schools Player of the Year by the Colorado Springs Gazette. She was also first team all-area, all-league and all-state. Kinzer was named to the Rocky Mountain News All-Colorado first team as well.
“We recruited Nikki (Kinzer) out of camp,” Aiu said. “She just did a phenomenal job her junior year and we really like what she can do. She has some good size and touches very high. I think she will just continue to touch higher and higher throughout her career and brings a strong body to that position (MB) for us.”
Kinzer was also recruited by Missouri, James Madison, Georgetown and Cal Poly.
Schroeder is an outside hitter from San Diego, Calif. She was named to the Palomar, CIF Division I San Diego County all-first teams as a junior. Schroeder’s club team qualified for the USA Volleyball Junior Nationals the last four years, in which her 16’s and 17’s teams both placed fifth. Schroeder was named an All-American last season in the 17 Open Division. She was also named to the PrepVolleyball.com “Senior Aces 2009 Top 100” at No. 68.
“Kerra is a big, physical outside hitter,” Aiu said. “She will bring us some much needed size to the outside. She has played at a high level club and trains very well. We are excited about her becoming a Buff.”
Schroeder was also recruited by Wisconsin, Georgia, St. Mary’s, Indiana, Santa Clara and Oregon before deciding on CU.
The Buffs finished the 2008 campaign with a 13-16 overall record. CU was 7-13 in the Big 12, which tied for eight with Kansas and Missouri. The Buffs missed the NCAA tournament for just the second straight year and just the third time in 17 years.
