BOULDER ? The University of Colorado tennis team will take on in-state rival Denver, Saturday morning at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House. First serve begins with the doubles competition at 11 a.m.

 

Admission and parking are free.

 

The Buffaloes (1-3) are ranked No. 65 nationally will look for their second win this week and its third straight win over the Pioneers in as many years.

 

The Pioneers are off to a perfect 5-0 start and nationally ranked at No. 41.

 

Colorado leads the all-time series, 27-4 dating back to 1975. The Buffaloes and Pioneers have split their last four meetings with CU winning the last two match ups in 2006 and 2007, both hard-fought 4-3 decisions. The Pioneers won back-to-back matches in 2004 and 2005.

 

The Buffs take to the road for the next two weeks with a trio of matches against William & Mary (Feb. 16), Old Dominion (Feb. 17) and Arizona (Feb. 29). The Tribe and Wildcats are nationally ranked at No. 15 and No. 39, respectively. CU leads the series against W&M, 1-0; first-ever meeting with the Lady Monarchs; and trail 11-4 to Arizona. The Buffaloes defeated the Tribe and Wildcats last spring.

 

Saturday's featured student-athlete is sophomore Camila Belassi. Each home match, a woman's tennis player will be featured with 21 questions. Belassi is from Paysand?, Uruguay.

MOVING UP: Gleisy Torres Torres is moving up the all-time victory list at Colorado. Entering today, she has 63 wins and ranks tied for 17th place. Veera Nurmi is not far behind with 60 triumphs and 19th place.

 

TRIO AT THE TOP: Three players top the overall victories list on the 2007-08 season which includes the fall and four spring matches. Victoria Almagno, Melisa Esposito and Franziska Jendrian each have nine wins.
