Tennis Hosts Yale At South Campus

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado tennis team looks to make it three match wins in a row hosting the Yale Bulldogs at the South Campus Tennis Courts, Tuesday, March 11 at 2 p.m. The match originally scheduled at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House was relocated outside due to the weather.

The Buffaloes (3-6, 1-0 Big 12) are coming off a 7-0 shutout triumph over Missouri last Saturday to open the conference season.

Yale (3-3) is making its tour of Colorado as they take on Denver, Monday afternoon and visit Boulder on Tuesday. This is CU’s first match up with Yale since the two schools played one another back in 1981. The Buffs hold a 1-0 edge in the series.

Admission and parking to all home tennis matches is free and open to the public.

Each home match the CU Sports Information Office will feature a tennis player with a series of 21 questions. Tuesday's featured student-athlete is junior Franziska Jendrian from Rodleben, Germany.

milestone wins: With straight set victories at their respective singles slots against Missouri, juniors Monica Milewski and Franziska Jendrian have each won 50 career singles matches.

chart climbers: Seniors Gleisy Torres Torres and Veera Nurmi moved up to 17th and 18th place on CU’s all-time victories list, respectively with their straight set wins against Mizzou. Torres Torres won her 65th career, Nurmi her 64th.

7-0 SWEEPS: CU’s Big 12 Conference opener over the Tigers, 7-0, was the second time this season the Buffs swept both the singles and doubles matches. Back on Feb. 6, they blanked Northern Colorado.

PLAYING WELL: Senior Veera Nurmi has won five of her last six singles matches. At No. 3 doubles, the tandem of freshman Abbie Probert and senior Glesiy Torres Torres have won three straight. The pair is 7-2 for the year.

CU AOW: During the 2007-08 athletic season, the tennis team has won a trio of athlete of the week honors. On Sept. 25, Franziska Jendrian earned her fourth career accolade; on Jan. 29, Monica Milewski picked up her fifth; and on March 4, Veera Nurmi was named for the second time.

KU/K-State: Next week, the Buffaloes host Kansas and Kansas State over a three-day span. The Buffaloes lead the series 19-13 over the Jayhawks and have won six of eight matches since 2003. Against the Wildcats, CU trails 19-10, however, have won three of the last four match ups.
