BOULDER - The University of Colorado announced Friday that student-athlete RyAnne Ridge officially left the women’s basketball program last month after learning of the death of her grandfather.

RyAnne spent an extended period of time in New York in early February with family attending the funeral and weather-delayed burial.  The timing of this trauma, coupled with lingering medical issues, will not allow her to continue with the program.

“I wish to thank my teammates, CU staff members and fans for their incredible support through this very difficult period,” Ridge said.  “My awesome teammates will be my life-long friends.  I hope everyone will come out and support them in their appearance in the second round of the WNIT at the Coors Center here in Boulder Monday.

“I am very excited that recent transfer credits will allow me to graduate this summer and pursue a graduate assistant’s position with a highly successful basketball program back in the Midwest,” she continued.  “My dream would be to one-day return to CU as part of the coaching staff of the women’s basketball program.”

CU head coach Kathy McConnell Miller said, “RyAnne has had many significant challenges to overcome, and all of us at the University of Colorado wish her nothing but success.”
