COLLEGE STATION, Texas ? The University of Colorado tennis team begins its second season on Friday, April 25 taking on No. 4 Kansas at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. CU’s quarterfinal match will begin at 11 a.m. (MDT).

CU is ranked No. 58 nationally and is seeded fourth for the second straight year finishing Big 12 play with an 8-3 record. The Buffaloes trailed only No. 3 Baylor (11-0), No. 20 Texas (10-1) and No. 31 Texas A&M (9-2) in the standings which accounted for all of the Buffs three losses during the regular season.

 

If CU defeats KU, they will play top-seed and No. 3 nationally ranked Baylor in Saturday’s semifinal at 2 p.m. (MDT). In the 11-year history of the Big 12 Tennis Championships, CU is 0-1 as the No. 4 seed and 3-2 against the Jayhawks. Overall, the Buffaloes are 10-11 in the conference post-season.

 

Texas A&M will serve as host of the four-day postseason championship for only the third time in conference history next to 1999 and 2002. The George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, chosen as the USTA Facility of the Year in 1999, has played host to numerous intercollegiate tennis tournaments over the years ranging from USTA events to the NCAA Regionals. In 2002 and 2005, the venue served as the site of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships, and in 2009 will serve as host to both the men’s and women’s national championships.

 

The women’s championship features past tournament winners in Texas A&M (2004), Baylor (2006, 2007), Texas (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005) and Oklahoma State (2003).

Single day general admission tickets priced at $6 are also available, while college students and children will be admitted for $4.
