McFarland Named To Lowe's Senior All-America Team

BOULDER -- University of Colorado's Jackie McFarland was named to the Lowe's All-Senior All-America first team as part of its annual Senior CLASS Award announcement for women's basketball on Saturday.
McFarland was one of 10 national finalists for the 2008 Senior CLASS Award which was awarded Saturday to Stanford All-American Candace Wiggins. McFarland and Wiggins were joined on the All-Senior All-America first team by LSU's Sylvia Fowles, Maryland's Crystal Langhorne and Evansville's Rebekah Parker.
A two-time Associated Press honorable mention All-American and first team All-Big 12 Conference pick, McFarland led Colorado to a 19-15 record and WNIT semifinal appearance this season averaging 18.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting 57 percent from the field. She finished her distinguished playing career second in scoring (1,957), third in field goals made (671), fourth in blocked shots (138), first in free throws made (586), first in free throws attempted (758), fourth in minutes played (3,928), second in double-doubles (46) and second in double digit rebounding games (48) on CU's all-time charts.
McFarland averaged 25 points, 9.5 rebounds and hit 60 percent during CU's Postseason WNIT run and on Saturday she was also named to the WNIT All-Tournament team. Marquette, which ended Colorado's season on April 2 in the semifinals, won the 2008 WNIT title by defeating Michigan State, 81-66 on Saturday.
Lowe's Senior CLASS award program focuses on the “Four C’s” of classroom, character, community and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the award was launched during the 2001-02 season to honor the attributes of college basketball seniors who remain committed to their university and pursue the many rewards that a senior season and complete college education brings.

McFarland is a three-year team captain and is actively involved in CU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. SAAC is the governing body for student-athletes at CU which assists in the development and implementation of programs that motivate student-athletes to strive for and be recognized for academic excellence and community involvement.
McFarland returned to Boulder Saturday night after participating in the 2008 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp held in Tampa April 4-5 where she had the chance to play against 40 of the top global prospects in front of WNBA scouts and coaches. The 2008 WNBA Draft is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. MDT in Palm Harbor, Fla. The 2008 WNBA Draft will be televised live on ESPN2.
