Tennis Match vs. Texas A&M Relocated
BOULDER ? The CU/Texas A&M tennis match scheduled for Sunday, 10 a.m. at the South Campus Courts will be moved indoors to the Millennium Hotel Harvest House due to the cold morning temperature. Doubles begins first at 10 a.m., followed by singles.
Th Buffaloes (7-9, 4-2 Big 12) will host the No. 30 ranked Texas A&M in the last home match of the spring season. The Aggies (11-6, 5-1) have won five of seven with their only losses coming to No. 4 Baylor and No. 24 Notre Dame during that span. The weekend matches will also be the last for a quartet of seniors: Victoria Almagno, Veera Nurmi, Allison Quinn and Gleisy Torres Torres. Three of the four seniors will featured this weekend with their respective Q&A. Thoughout the home season, the CU Sports Information Office has featured a tennis player with a series of 21 questions. Friday’s featured student-athletes are seniors Victoria Almagno from Englewood, Colo. and Allison Quinn from Highlands Ranch, Colo. Sunday's feature is senior Gleisy Torres Torres from Barquisimeto, Venezuela. WEEKEND NOTES 70 & counting: Senior Gleisy Torres Torres became only the 14th woman in school history to win 70 career singles matches. She’s the third student-athlete in this decade to eclipse the 70-win plateau. Kendra Strandemo was the first to perform the feat from 2001-05, followed by Jessica Vanderdys from 2002-06. Vanderdys and Strandemo are 11th and 12th, respectively on CU’s victories list with 72 and 71 triumphs.
ALL-TIME Chart: In addition to Gleisy ranking on the all-time chart, look for junior Franziska Jendrian to keep moving up. Jendrian sits in 20th place with 55 victories, followed by junior Monica Milewski in 21st place (54 wins). Sophomores Melisa Esposito and Camila Belassi have 34 and 30 victories, respectively. MORE GLEISY: With her singles victory against SENIOR SALUTE: Sunday marks the last home match for a quartet of CU student-athletes: Victoria Almagno, Veera Nurmi, Allison Quinn, Gleisy Torres Torres. In her two years at CU, Almagno has a 16-12 singles and 12-10 doubles record; Nurmi has 68 singles and 24 doubles wins; Quinn has six singles and nine doubles victories; and Torres Torres has 70 singles and 46 doubles tallies. TEAM LEADERS: The doubles duo of Abbie Probert and Gleisy Torres Torres have a team-best 9-3 spring record (12-4 overall). In singles, Torres Torres has a 5-1 Big 12 mark, while Franziska Jendrian has a spring best 10-4 record and the entire year is 17-7. A&M NOTES ? A&M’s Elze Potgieter is ranked No. 75 in the nation in singles. The doubles team of Anna Blagodarova and Tiffany Clifford is coming off an 8-5 upset over the No. 2-ranked team in the country, Baylor’s Lenka Broosova and Zuzana Zemenova. ? Morgan Frank, who picked up the Aggies’ only singles point against the Lady Bears, is 6-0 in Big 12 singles matches and is riding a seven-match winning streak. In doubles, she and partner Stephanie Davidson are 13-2, including 6-0 in Big 12 matches only. ? Christi Liles is 5-0 this season at the No. 2 slot and 14-2 overall in singles. ? A&M leads the all-time series against CU, holding a 10-3 record dating back to 1981. The Aggies have won the last nine in a row dating back to 1999.
