            BOULDER ? University of Colorado men’s basketball head coach Jeff Bzdelik announced Tuesday that Ryan Kelley has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball and continue his education at CU.

            Kelley is the fifth freshman student-athlete to join Bzdelik’s first recruiting class for the 2008-09 season. Kelley was also considering Indiana and Gonzaga among others.

Last November during the early signing period Colorado signed Austin Dufault, Trey Eckloff, Nate Tomlinson and Toby Veal.

“We are proud to welcome Ryan Kelley into the Buff family,” Bzdelik said. “Ryan is an excellent student, possesses high character and is a young man who has a terrific basketball upside.”          

Kelley, a 6’4”, 190-pound guard from Pomona, Calif., starred at Diamond Ranch High School where he averaged 16.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game for the Panthers during his senior year. Kelley led his team to an 18-11 record while scoring 20 or more points on 12 occasions.

            Kelley is the nephew of former CU standout and 1,000-point scorer Vince Kelley, who played with the Buffaloes from 1980-84. 

            The addition of Kelley to the 2008-09 roster, leaves CU with two available scholarships for the spring signing period, which runs through May 21.
