Ski Coach Rokos To Accompany Hawk
CU, HAWKINS TOUR HEADING TO THE HILLS
BOULDER ? University of Colorado coach head football coach Dan Hawkins continues his travels around the state next week, this time heading into the mountains and he’ll be bringing a familiar face with him to those who know skiing.
Head ski coach Richard Rokos, the dean of CU’s sports coaches who has led the Buffaloes to five national championships, will join Hawkins at stops in Steamboat Springs and Glenwood Springs next Tuesday and Wednesday.
A public meet-n-greet is set for Olympic Hall at Howelsen Hill in Steamboat on Tuesday (May 27). The event is open to the public, with complimentary light snacks and refreshments from 4:30-6:00 p.m. Hawkins and Rokos will visit with all comers and will conduct a short program. Those interested in attending can just come on by, there is no need to RSVP.

These are the final stops on the initial tour, which has set the foundation for expanded tours in the future. Hawkins came up with the idea when the NCAA legislated that head coaches could no longer go on the road and visit high schools of potential recruits during the spring evaluation period. That, and CU had ceased its own department tour in 1999 and athletic director Mike Bohn wants to work to increase the school’s presence around the state.

The group also talks about the upcoming Buffs 4 Life Charity Golf Tournament in which Klatt and Johnson are participating, along with other CU greats like Kordell Stewart, Rashaan Salaam and Eric Bieniemy. This year’s tournament will benefit the Colorado E Foundation to help fight against emphysema.
