Mussie Joins Volleyball Staff

“We are excited to have Stevie join the staff,” Aiu said. “She bring ideas and a philosophy from a school that has been on the cutting edge of training and has been very successful in the last five or six years.”
Mussie, a former outside hitter, will join the Buffaloes as an assistant coach, replacing Erik Sullivan who left the Buffaloes in February. She comes to CU after a successful collegiate volleyball career at both the
“I’m really excited,” Mussie said. “I’m excited to help make a change in the program and to bring in what I know. Also, I’m excited to learn something new.
“It’s a great first job, to be in the Big 12, at an established program. I couldn’t be happier.”
During the 2007 volleyball season, Mussie was named First Team All-Pac 10. She averaged 3.95 kills and 4.46 points per game, which was second on the team. Mussie led the Huskies in kills 12 times during the 2007 season.
She was named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 17-23. She recorded a season-best 27 kills and hit .310 against
She missed the 2005 season, the year UW won the NCAA Championship, after knee surgery.
In 2006, she was named the Seattle Regional Most Outstanding Player. Mussie played in all 34 matches and started in 30. She ranked second on the team with 3.62 kills per game, which was 10th in the league. Mussie also averaged 4.34 points per game, which was also second on the team.
“I think that I know how to win as a player and I think that will be valuable for our program,” Mussie said. “I went to the final four and won a national championship. I was at the top of the Pac-10, and we (Huskies) won the Pac-10 so I know what it takes to be great. I think that will be something that I can bring to the program. I’m just excited to be here.”
Mussie played for two years at the University of the Pacific before transferring to UW. She was named to the All-Big West Conference Freshman Team in 2003 after recording 2.46 kills, 2.49 digs and 0.39 blocks per game. In 2004 she increased her numbers to 3.53 kills, 2.69 digs and 0.41 blocks per game.
