Sophomore sprinter Dyamond Seay is one of many Colorado track & field student athletes preparing for the 2008 Big 12 Outdoor Championships which will be held May 16-18 at Potts Field in Boulder. A native of DeSoto, Texas., Seay competes in the 100, 200 and 400 for CU and ran a personal best 56.40 seconds in the 400 at the Potts Invite on March 22. Seay took a few moments to talk about being a student-athlete at CU with CUBuffs.com:

CR: What’s your favorite part about the outdoor track season here at CU?

DS:  In my opinion, outdoor season is much better than the indoor season. I like the weather, but the altitude was a big adjustment at first. My outdoor times are much better, and I just like to run outside.

CR: What’s your favorite thing about CU?

DS:  I like how different it is. Coming from Texas, it is much different than what I was used to. I like the education that I’m getting because it is very valuable.

CR: What’s your favorite thing to do in Boulder besides running?

DS:  Shop. I go to the Macy’s and Lady Footlocker on 29th Street.

CR: Do you have any superstitions you follow before you race?

DS: I pray before every race, and make sure I warm up and do stretches.

CR: What do you do to pump your self up before a race?

DS: Listen to music. I don’t have a certain song I like, but mainly just upbeat music that gets me “crunk.”

CR: What is your most memorable moment with the Buffs?

DS:  I like the dinners we have. The sprint team will usually have dinner before home meets; sometimes we have dinner before we travel. I like the bonding and the sisterhood. I love my girls, my teammates.

CR: Where is your favorite place to compete?

DS: Texas. Specifically the Texas Relays because of the weather and good competition. Because I’m from Texas, it’s always nice to go back home where you have a lot of fans and lots of support.

CR: What are the three most important things you bring with you on a road trip?

DS: Spikes, laptop, and Ipod.

CR: Where would you like to travel most?

DS:To compete-Penn Relays. For my own leisure-Jamaica

CR: What is your favorite food?

DS: I’m a down south country girl, so my favorite food is chicken and dressing

CR: Who are your heroes?

DS: My father because of his wisdom and knowledge, and my mother because she’s my mom and because of her intelligence. My oldest brother because of his hard work, and my little brother because of his athletic ability.

CR: What is your favorite book?

DS: Their Eyes Were Watching God

CR: What is your favorite movie?

DS: Love and Basketball

CR: What do you like to do for fun when you aren’t training?

DS: Shopping. I love to shop.

CR: When did you start sprinting?

DS: 7th grade on my Jr. High School team

CR: What do you miss most about Texas?

DS: Everything! The weather and the heat because I’m not a snow person at all. My family and my friends

CR: If you could be anyone for a day who would you be?

DS:Oprah because she is rich and a great person.

CR: Who is your favorite singer or group?

DS:  Beyonce and TLC

CR: What do you plan to do with a major in Integrative Physiology?

DS: I want to be a physical therapist and work with college athletes or professional athletes.

CR: You participate in the Read with the Buffs program here at CU. What is this group and what do you do with this group?

DS:  Read with the Buffs is a group of student athletes that go to different local elementary schools in the Boulder area and read to the students. We usually go for two hours once a month. They think it’s so cool because we are the athletes from CU.
