Volleyball To Wrap Up Season Against No. 8 Nebraska

BOULDER -The University of Colorado volleyball team is looking to upset the No. 8/9 Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, November 28, in Lincoln, Neb., in the final match of the 2009 season. It will start at 6 p.m. (MST) in the Nebraska Coliseum.

 

The Buffs are currently 7-21 overall and own a 2-17 record in the Big 12 while Nebraska is 22-6 overall and ranks third in the league with a 15-4 record. The Huskers are ranked eighth in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll and are No. 9 in the Volleyball Magazine poll. Nebraska has a commanding lead in the all-time series against the Buffs at 45-7; but CU has won two contests in the last three seasons against the Huskers.

 

Becah Fogle ranks seventh in the Big 12 with 3.29 kills per set to lead CU offensively. Rosie Steinhaus and Kerra Schroeder rank second and third on the team with 2.73 and 2.52 kills per set, respectively. Kaitlyn Burkett has handed out 7.64 assists per set this year and is directing CU to a .158 attack percentage.

 

Fogle leads the Buffs defensively with 2.51 digs per set. Sophia Lindroth is second with 2.47 digs per set. Nikki Kinzer has 64 blocks this season to lead the Buffs (averaging with .74 blocks per set) and Schylur Edelman puts up .65 blocks per set to rank second for CU.

 

Nebraska has won the previous six matches heading into Saturday night, but is slightly down this season as it has accumulated four conference losses this year. The Huskers have registered Big 12 losses to No. 2 Texas (twice), No. 7 Iowa State and Texas A&M. They have only lost twice on their home court this season, while the Buffs have two road wins this year.

 

Hannah Werth is averaging 3.21 kills per set to lead the Huskers and Tara Mueller adds 3.01 kills per set. Kori Cooper is the top attacker in the league with a .368 hitting percentage. She has recorded 158 kills and 37 errors on 329 attacks. Sydney Anderson is averaging 11.45 assists per set, which is second in the Big 12, while directing the Huskers to a .250 attack percentage, also second in the conference.

 

Kayla Banwarth has averaged 4.84 digs per set this season (second in the Big 12) to lead NU. Werth adds 2.92 digs per set. The Husker block is led by Brooke Delano, who averages 1.18 blocks per set. She has 18 block solos and 93 block assists on the season. Lindsey Licht adds .98 blocks per set.
