Seventh 2009-10 Winning Attitude Recipient Announced

Helen showed her Winning Attitude by promoting the Students for Seniors program. She volunteered to help her teacher by encouraging people to donate their old cell phones to the program. Helen wanted to partake in new experiences and that led her to taking on a leadership role within the program. Her involvement included passing out flyers and explaining to people how donating their cell phones would benefit others. Helen’s teachers and peers depended upon her to pass out the flyers to insure that they could get as many phones donated as possible. The phones that were donated went directly to senior citizens. Helen did not get discouraged even though some people were not as willing as others to listen to her. “While some people would take a flyer and listen to what I was saying, others would walk away while I talking and would say ?no thanks,’ or completely ignore me. It got a little frustrating at times, but I kept going with a good outlook. By keeping a positive outlook it encouraged my peers to do the same,” Helen said. By showing her winning attitude not only did she help others, but Helen found out how good it feels to make a difference in her community as well.
