Stevens Placed On Scholarship
BOULDER ? University of Colorado football head coach Dan Hawkins announced Friday afternoon that junior center Keenan Stevens has been placed on scholarship.
The 6-2, 290-pound center from Monument, Colo., and Lewis-Palmer High School was a 2006 walk-on as a true freshman, redshirting that season. He played one game in 2007, in for 10 snaps late in CU’s 42-0 win over Miami-Ohio, and did not play as a sophomore. But this year, he saw action in 11 games including nine starts, moving into the starting spot at center for the West Virginia game and the entire Big 12 Conference schedule.
He graded out to over 80 percent in all 11 games (four times over 90) in earning an 87.1 percent grade for the year, with a season-best 94 percent at Kansas State. He allowed the fewest pressures and was called for the fewest penalties (two each) of all the offensive line regulars, while posting 20 knockdown/finishing blocks and two touchdown blocks.
“Keenan embodies everything that we?re about,” Hawkins said. “He’s a great kid, he’s an extremely hard worker and he is most deserving of this.”
Hawkins completed meetings with every player on his roster as well Friday (110 in number), and announced four walk-ons would not be returning: junior placekicker Ryan Aweida, sophomore defensive end Kevin Cooney, freshman tailback Trevor LaBarge and freshman quarterback Jerry Slota.
