CU XC Teams Earns Academic Award
BOULDER?The University of Colorado men’s and women’s cross country team was honored by receiving one of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors on Thursday.
The men’s team recorded a fall grade point average of 3.082 and the women notched a GPA of 3.389. Richard Medina was the only Buff named to the All-Academic Team.
A record total of 160 NCAA Division I women’s programs received the USTFCCCA’s All-Academic Team honor this year compared to 158 schools from last season. The Big East and Big Ten Conference tied for the most conference members represented on the list with 11 teams each, followed by the Southeastern Conference and the Big 12 Conference with nine teams each and the Atlantic Coast Conference with eight teams on the list.
On the men’s side, a record total of 110 Division I programs received the USTFCCCA’s All-Academic Team honor this year compared to 98 schools earning the honor last season. In addition, seven of the top 10 and 14 of the top 20 teams in the championship field at this year’s NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams. The Buffs were 12th at the championship. The Big Ten, Big 12, Missouri Valley and the Southeastern Conference tied for the most conference members represented on the list with six teams.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
The individual award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must finish in the top 15 finishers (or top 10%) of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet or attain All-American status at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
