Pro Timing Day in Boulder

BOULDER?A total of 10 players participated in the University of Colorado Pro Football Timing Day here Monday on the CU campus, showcasing their skills in front of scouts from various NFL teams in preparation for the NFL Draft, held April 25-26 in New York.
Nine of the 10 players were seniors on last year’s team, including defensive tackle George Hypolite, outside linebacker Brad Jones, defensive tackle Brandon Nicolas and safety Ryan Walters. The other player was former inside linebacker Thaddaeus Washington (2003-06).
The events started at the Dal Ward Athletic Center where scouts took down official heights and weights of the players and before heading down to the practice bubble, the players participated in drills that measured their vertical jump, standing broad jump and bench press. After moving down to the bubble, drills included the 40-yard dash, 3-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle, 60-yard shuttle and various position drills, as well.
Jones had a particularly good day and caught the eye of some scouts. He was clocked by one scout in the 40-yard dash in 4.54, which would’ve been the fastest time at the NFL combine for a linebacker. Most scouts clocked him around 4.60, which still would’ve ranked as the second-fastest time at the combine behind Wake Forest’s Aaron Curry (4.56). Jones also showed well in the position drills and had the fastest 3-cone time (4.75) before clocking the fourth-fastest time in both the 60-yard shuttle (11.62) and the 20-yard shuttle (4.21).
Jones’ roommate, wide receiver Patrick Williams, might have had the most impressive feat of the day when he recorded a standing broad jump of 11 feet, which would have been the best by a wide receiver at the NFL Combine and tied for third best by any player, regardless of position. Additionally, he recorded a vertical jump of 38 inches which would have been tied for the sixth best at his position.
Hypolite and Nicolas both showed well in the bench press. Hypolite’s 32 reps would have been good for sixth at the combine while Nicolas’ 31 would have put him in eighth among their fellow defensive lineman. Walters had a solid showing at the bench, as he put up 25 reps which would have placed him tied for third among all defensive backs.
Former CU All-American linebacker and current Detroit Lion Jordon Dizon was in attendance Monday to offer his support for his former teammates. The first two rounds of the NFL Draft will take place Saturday, April 25 with rounds three through seven the following day.
