Spikers Head To Sterling Tournament

BOULDER? The University of Colorado volleyball team will continue its spring tournament schedule this Saturday in Sterling, Colo.
The Buffs will play in-state rivals Colorado State and Denver at the Bank of Colorado Events Center on the campus of Northeastern Junior College. The Buffs will face DU at 12 p.m. and will square off against CSU at 2 p.m. CSU and DU will play at 10 a.m.
The event will be a homecoming of sorts for two players from the Sterling area. Both Colorado junior middle blocker Schylur Edelman and Colorado State outside hitter Danielle Minch are natives of Sterling and graduates of Sterling High School.
"I'm so excited to go home and play in front of my hometown again,” Edelman said. “One thing I've missed is the overwhelming support the volleyball team, along with all the other sports, received from the community and I think going back there will provide a great atmosphere to play in and rally a lot of support for our current program here at CU."
There will be a meet and greet as well as an autograph session following the matches. Tickets are $3 and are available at the door or by calling the CSU ticket office at (970) 491-7267.
The Buffs are fresh off their first tournament of the spring and are already showing signs of improvement.
“It was fun and exciting to put what we have learned in practice over the past couple of weeks into action,” sophomore right side hitter Rosie Steinhaus said. “We still have tons of room for improvement, but I could really see a difference in the small steps we have made as a team. Spring training is when we take risks and try new things, and our new system is becoming stronger everyday because of this.”
Colorado is also proud to announce that registration for its summer camp program is open. Little Spikers camps will be held July 6-7 and 8-9. One Day Skills Camp is set for July 14 (setting/hitting) and 15 (serving/passing/defense) and the All Skills Camp will run from July 10-12. The High Performance Training Camps will be held July 16-19.
The Buffs will have a quartet of silver-medal winning members from the 2008 Olympic Women’s Volleyball Team as Robyn Ah-mow Santos, Stacy Sykora, Nicole Davis and Ogonna Nnamani will help out at some of the camps. All four played under current CU assistant Tom Hogan at The Games in August.
