Tennis Home Finale Moved Indoors

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado tennis team will play their final home match of the season when they take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday, April 19 (11 a.m.) at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House bubble. Parking and admission are free.

CU (11-7, 7-2 Big 12) is ranked No. 53 nationally and have won seven of their last nine matches, while the Cornhuskers, ranked No. 73 are 13-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play. Nebraska has won three of their last four.

Sunday’s match will feature the last home match for senior Franziska Jendrian. The Rodleben, Germany native is the school’s all-time doubles leader (76) and ranks No. 6 on CU’s all-time singles win list (84).

 

CU MATCH NOTES

 

SENIOR DAY... Today marks the last home match for Franziska Jendrian. Jendrian is CU’s all-time doubles leader (76 wins) and ranks sixth in singles victories (84). In Big 12-only matches, she ranks third all-time at CU with 28 singles triumphs and third in doubles wins with 26.

 

Series against NEBRASKA... Colorado leads the all-time series, 18-13 and holds an 8-5 edge in Big 12 matches. CU is 4-1 in Boulder against the Cornhuskers.

 

4-3 MATCHES vs. NU... In Big 12 play, both schools have each won three 4-3 decisions. The last three years have been decided by 4-3 results with CU winning two of three.

 

BIG 12 PLAY... CU has won 24 Big 12 matches over the last three years. That’s the best three-year total of any three-year span since the inception of the Big 12 for any CU team.

 

7-2 CONFERENCE RECORDS ... After nine Big 12 matches, junior Camila Belassi and sophomore Abbie Probert have each recorded 7-2 records in their respective singles slots. Belassi is 4-1 at No. 2 singles and 3-1 at the top spot, while Probert is 7-2 at No. 3.

 

20-WIN SEASONS... CU has a trio of 20 match winners for the year and all are season-highs. Franziska Jendrian has a career-best 24 singles wins, Camila Belassi and Melisa Esposito each have 21 victories. 

 

ALL-BIG 12 ACADEMIC TEAM... On Friday, the Big 12 announced its All-Academic team with a trio of CU student-athletes. Franziska Jendrian and Monica Milewski were named to the first team, while Camila Belassi earned second team honors.

 

COACH KENNEALLY... In her 10 years as the CU head coach, Kenneally has coached seven-straight winning seasons. She ranks third all-time among both men’s and women’s CU coaches with 114 wins.

 

NEBRASKA Match Notes

 

- Nebraska is currently in fifth place in the Big 12 with a 5-4 record

- The Cornhuskers have won three of four matches, however are only 2-4 on the road (1-2 in Big 12 matches)

- NU is 3-2 in matches decided by 4-3 decisions

- The Huskers started the season 10-0 for the second straight year

- Freshman Mary Weatherholt has set an NU single-season record with 33 singles wins on the year

- Junior Wiveca Swarting’s 29 singles wins on the year is third on the NU all-time single-season list

- After winning its first road match of the season, Nebraska has lost four of five away from home

- Nebraska’s three freshmen have combined for 36 singles wins this spring and 63 in the fall and spring combined

- NU last won in Boulder on April 24, 2005 (4-3)
