Intensity Highlights Second Spring Practice

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado football team partook in the second of 15 spring practice sessions Thursday in the bubble at CUGÇÖs practice fields.  The Buffs took the field for just under two-and-a-half hours.

With the first day of pads slated for Friday, it was clear the Buffs are itching to strap it up and get some hitting in.

GÇ£I loved it, I think the intensity was great,GÇ¥ coach Dan Hawkins said. GÇ£TheyGÇÖre energized and playing with a lot of passion.  The unfortunate thing is when you donGÇÖt have pads on, youGÇÖre playing flag football so you canGÇÖt really get the full impact of football.  That can lead to some extra circular activity, but you have to love the intensity.GÇ¥

Near the end of 7-on-7 drills, the defense forced a turnover that got everybody in the bubble fired up, including the more than 70 coaches in attendance for a clinic.  From that point on, the energy level was raised a few notches.

GÇ£You see some camaraderie,GÇ¥ Hawkins said.  GÇ£Both sides are doing a great job of finishing and hustling and getting to the ball.  So when the offensive guys see their guy getting mobbed, theyGÇÖre going to get in there and rescue him.GÇ¥

The Buffs third spring practice is schedule for Friday at 4 p.m.  It will be the Buffs first day in full pads.  The spring game will take place April 25 at 1 p.m.

Notes:  Some former Buffs were on hand WednesdayGÇÖs practice.  Former inside linebacker Ty Gregorak was a guest speaker for the coaches clinic and stuck around to catch some practice.  He just finished his sixth season at Montana where he is the linebackers coach under former Buff assistant Bobby Hauck.  Former cornerback Elton Toray Davis was also in attendance.  Davis is coaching at Boulder High.  Former Split End Dave Logan was also spotted heading up to Dal Ward after practice for the clinic.
