CU Begins Final Week Of Spring Practice

The last time the Buffs were on the field together was Friday when they had their second scrimmage of the spring. After having the weekend to watch and review film with his coaching staff, head coach Dan Hawkins now has a better idea of how the team performed in the scrimmage.
“It’s a lot of what you would think,” Hawkins said. “You have one guy bust it on offense and it makes the defense look great. I thought in general that the offense did a good job on third downs. Where we’re getting to know is just all about the little stuff.”
As the Buffs continue to move closer to the end of spring practices, there continues to be a number of intriguing position battles. However, coach Hawkins continues to preach that nobody has starter security going into the fall and even if they are the clear cut starter after the spring a lot can change during fall camp.
“I think they can get ahead in the spring, that’s for sure,” Hawkins explained. “I’ve just always been one of those guys who thinks that you’ve always got to keep playing. Yeah, you win jobs in August but you have to keep playing and making plays through the year and I just don’t ever want that rock to come off the gas pedal.”
NOTES: Former CU great and Thorpe Award Winner Deon Figures was in attendance and watched practice on Monday. The Buffs will be back on the practice fields Tuesday in full pads as they finish up preparations for their annual Spring Game which will be held April 25 at 1 p.m. in Folsom Field.
