Healthy Kids Day A Big Part Of CU Spring Fest

BOULDER -- Football wonGÇÖt be the only sport in the spotlight Saturday as the University of Colorado hosts its sixth annual Healthy Kids Day promoting youth participation in sports. Festivities kick off at 10:30 a.m. on Franklin Field, located just east of the stadium, as part of CU Spring Fest prior to the annual Spring Football game set for 1 p.m. at Folsom Field.
Healthy Kids Day features a variety of interactive skills stations ? representing 20 sports - where kids can test their abilities and interests in golf, soccer, high jump, ultimate frisbee and more. Additionally, a football skills station will be set up in Folsom Field starting at 11 a.m. Participants will have a chance to experience CU football as the players do taking part in tackling, receiving, passing, agility and kicking drills. Kids in the eighth grade or below are eligible to participate.
Participants and their families will also enjoy meeting Ralphie V, ColoradoGÇÖs nationally recognized mascot, learning the CU Fight Song and getting to know CU student-athletes from all sports who will be on hand for autograph signing and photographs.
Food and beverages will be provided by Healthy Kids Day sponsors Noodles & Company, Qdoba Mexican Grill and Outback Steakhouse. Additionally, Outback Steakhouse will give free T-Shirts and food to the first 1,000 kids to register.
Last year more than 1,500 kids participated in the outreach program that emphasizes the positive health benefits kids obtain as a result of participating in youth sports. Promoting a fit lifestyle and educating kids of all ages about the benefits of being healthy are two of the main goals this day strives to achieve.
Registration will take place at its new location at the entrance to Franklin Field on Colorado Ave. Participants are encouraged to arrive early. Plenty of free public parking is available in lot 436, located at Colorado and Regent.
