FOURTH QUARTER, 2:28
Black continued its sustained drive that lasted nearly the entire fourth quarter. Lockridge, Stewart and Jake Behrens combined for 10 rushes for 42 yards. Black thought it had a score when Darrell Scott, on the halfback option, passed complete to Markques Simas in the back of the endzone, but Simas was called for offensive pass interference. The penalty pushed Black all the way back to the 38 yard line and the ball was given back to Gold for one last drive.
END OF THIRD QUARTER, BLACK 17, GOLD 10
The game's first turnover came on Gold's next drive as Tyler Hansen lost control of the ball during a pass attempt. It was ruled a fumble and Black took over at its own 36. Brian Lockridge and Rodney Stewart reeled off five straight rushes to move the ball to the Gold 39 heading into the fourth quarter.
THIRD QUARTER, 4:20
Black's first second half drive was short as the defense stiffened to force four short runs and two Cody Hawkins incompletions.
THIRD QUARTER, 6:44
Gold started off with a short drive with Rodney Stewart running for 9 yards and a 15-yard Tyler Hansen pass to Jake Behrens. Marcus Burton recorded his second sack of the game to quash the Gold drive. But the highlight of the drive, drawing oohs and ahhhs from the crowd of 11,700 was a 48-yard booming punt by the back up punter for today's game -- that would be Darrell Scott

HALFTIME: BLACK 17, GOLD 10
Black started the drive at the 5-yard line with under a minute left. Although they never were near scoring range, Cody Hawkins and Darrell Scott moved the ball nicely. Scott had rushes of 5 and 11 yards to get out of the shadow of the goal line and then Hawkins completed three straight passes to Scott to move the ball over mid field as time ran out.
SECOND QUARTER, 0:49, BLACK 17, GOLD 10
Tyler Hansen was able to drive the Gold down to the Black 26-yard line after a 29-yard pass to Josh Smith. But B.J. Beatty picked up his second sack of the half and ended the Gold drive. Aric Goodman made it 2-for-2 on field goal attempts by nailing a 50-yarder to bring the Gold back within a touchdown.
SECOND QUARTER, 2:07, BLACK 17, GOLD 7
It took just two plays for Cody Hawkins to get Black back on the scoreboard. He found Jason Espinoza for the longest play of the day, a 50-yard strike down the right side to the 14-yard line. Hawkins then found Markques Simas in the right corner for his second touchdown throw of the half.
SECOND QUARTER, 2:42
Rodney Stewart opened the Gold's drive with a 20-yard run up the right sideline. B.J. Beatty was able to get a sack on Hansen, and after a delay of game penalty, Gold faced 3rd-and-18. Hansen almost made up the difference on a 16-yard scramble, but the Buffs punted back to the Black.
SECOND QUARTER, 5:05
The coaching staff put the Black team back out on the field for the next drive. Although the Buffaloes were able to run 10 plays for the longest drive to this point, not much came out of it. Darrell Scott was once again the featured back, with runs of 7 and 4 on the drive, but it stalled after a sack by Vince Ewing and a delay of game penalty.
SECOND QUARTER, 9:02, BLACK 10, GOLD 7
The Black drive stalled without a first down, but Aric Goodman put the Black back up on top with a 43-yard field goal.
END OF FIRST QUARTER, BLACK 7, GOLD 7
Josh Smith took the ensuing kickoff from the Gold score and returned it 64 yards to the Gold 35. Demetrius Sumler ran for 8 yards up the middle as the first quarter ran out.
FIRST QUARTER, 0:15, BLACK 7, GOLD 7
Brian Lockridge was the featured back for the Buffaloes Gold team on their first scoring drive of the game. Lockridge had six carries for 37 yards, including a nifty 11-yard touchdown run where he started to the middle and cut to the left pylon for the score. He even attempted a pass on a half-back option as he was looking for Markques Simas in the endzone. It was incomplete, but it didn't count because the Black team was called for pass interference. Lockridge ran the next carry in for the score.
FIRST QUARTER, 3:39
A 3-and-out by the Black, as a holding penalty pins them down deep in their own territory. Just a four yard run by Rodney Stewart and two Hawkins incompletions
FIRST QUARTER, 5:51
Tyler Hansen was under center for the Gold. The rushing game started out well as Darrell Scott broke off a 23-yard run down the right sideline, but on 2nd-and-8, Marcus Burton broke through for a sack of Hansen as the drive stalled. The Black team takes over at its own 18-yard line.
FIRST QUARTER, 8:44, BLACK 7, GOLD 0
Cody Hawkins led the Black squad on a 4-play, 62-yard drive that ended with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jason Espinoza. Demetrius Sumler had the long play of the drive, a 31 catch. Hawkins was 3-of-4 on the drive.
FIRST QUARTER, 9:55
Josh Smith took the opening kick off to the Black 38-yard line where Cody Hawkins will lead the first possession.
Welcome to the 2009 Spring Game Live Reports. Ralphie V has just led the Buffaloes onto the field and we're moments from getting underway. Below are a couple notes on the format of today's game and refresh your browser often for updates throughout.
Quickly Today marks the third and final major scrimmage of the spring, as CU has scrimmaged on April 11 and 17 prior to today ... The Buffs have also scrimmaged regularly at times during most of the practices, especially dealing with the red zone and situational scrimmages ... For the first time since 2005, all 15 practices took place after spring break; the previous three years a handful took place prior to the week off ... CU coach Dan Hawkins is wrapping up his fourth spring practice session; he indicated that captains would not be selected until the fall ... There are about 200 football alumni in town rekindling friendships and taking part in the annual favorite events (Friday golf, evening reception, Saturday breakfast, autograph session and postgame barbecue). Daniel Graham was the featured alumni speaker at this morning’s breakfast.
Format The format today will be the standard Offense vs. Defense scrimmage; but with just two quarterbacks, the “BLACK” team will be when Cody Hawkins is at quarterback; the “GOLD” team will be when Tyler Hansen is the QB (both will start the same number of possessions against both the Nos. 1 and 2 defenses). There will be 10 minute quarters (40-second play clock) and three time outs per team per half.
