Blackmon Leaves CU Football Program

BOULDER ? University of Colorado coach Dan Hawkins announced Monday that freshman wide receiver Chance Blackmon has left the team.
Blackmon, who did not play as a true freshman in 2008 and was listed as a redshirt freshman on the spring roster, and thus would've been a redshirt freshman this fall. He earned All-Region honors from several publications following his prep career at Tatum High School in Tatum, Texas.
GÇ£We wish Chance the best in his future endeavors,GÇ¥ Hawkins said. GÇ£He has decided to leave the University of Colorado to pursue other opportunities closer to his family.GÇ¥
The rest of the Buffs, meanwhile, took part in the fourth practice of spring ball on the practice fields Monday.
The wide receivers also dominated a lot of HawkGÇÖs post-practice questions from the media.
When asked about Josh Smith and the return game, Hawkins said, GÇ£In the return game, you have 22 guys in space, and heGÇÖs one of the best guys we have in space, so we better make sure we use him there.GÇ¥
The key for the Buffs at the return spots is to develop some depth and Hawkins mention that Brian Lockridge and Darrell Scott can develop some depth on kick returns and Jason Espinoza will do the same on punt returns.
He was also asked about Marques Simas and after Hawkins mention that he had one of the best set of hands on the team, a little while later he was asked who has the best hands on the team.
GÇ£Well, I think you have to have Jimmy Smith in that category,GÇ¥ Hawkins said. GÇ£And ChaGÇÖpelle Brown, Scotty McKnight are in that category and the way Jason Espnioza is playing, heGÇÖs probably in that category, too. And a lot of those tight ends, they have some good mitts, as well.GÇ¥
