The game will feature two of the countryGÇÖs top lacrosse programs in the MenGÇÖs Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division 1 (CU #12, CSU #10, ranked by collegelax.us) as the Buffaloes and the Rams will face off in a late-season conference battle on Saturday April 18 at 4 p.m.
The Buffs will be trying for their first win over CSU since the inception of the MCLA in 1998. The outcome of the game will have a big effect for both teams as it will help determine playoff seedings in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference.
The Rocky Mountain Showdown will be preceded by a huge high school rivalry between the menGÇÖs lacrosse teams of Fairview High School and Boulder High School at 2 p.m.
Just like the CU-CSU matchup, the Boulder-Fairview game is typically one of the biggest games of the year for both teams; not only is it a cross-town rivalry, but it also counts for league position, which will determine playoffs and playoff seeding.
The Boulder Panthers and the Fairview Knights will be facing off for the tenth time in school history, and although many of the previous battles have been decided in overtime, the Knights remain undefeated against the Panthers at 9-0. However Boulder is having its best season to date, currently sitting at 5-4, 1-1 in league.
There is always a great buzz about the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown in Boulder and in Denver, but CU is trying to encompass the entire Colorado lacrosse community by preceding the CU-CSU game with the Boulder-Fairview matchup, as well as inviting local youth lacrosse groups to play at halftime of the Buffs-Rams game.
Tickets will be available for $5 at the Franklin Field ticket gate on the day of the game and at the CU Recreation Center Cashier in the weeks preceding the game. Tickets are also available at the University Memorial Center (UMC) on the CU Campus at 16th Street and Broadway every day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All seating is general admission.
The University of Colorado urges fans to attend both games and to come ready to support your Buffaloes!
