|
|
Miller initially came to CU on a football scholarship in 1961, but made his mark on the track. He won the Big Eight title in the 330-yard intermediate hurdles three straight years (1963-65) and also added indoor titles in the 60-yard low and high hurdles and outdoor in the 120-yard high hurdles. In 1964 he was named the Big Eight's Outstanding Outdoor Track & Field Athlete.
In 1963, he won his Big Eight 330-yard intermediate hurdles title with a time of 36.2 seconds, setting an NCAA and American record at the time. He also tied the Big Eight and American record in the 60 low hurdles at 6.7 seconds that season and was named the Outstanding Athlete at the 38th Annual Kansas Relays.
Miller gained NCAA All-America status in 1965, placing third in the 220-yard dash. He gained two AAU All-America certificates by winning the 1965 national pentathlon championship and the 1966 440-yard intermediate hurdles national crown.
After graduation from CU ('66), he earned a Law degree from Howard University in Washington and went on to become a trial lawyer and an administrative judge for the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission before retiring last year.
The Colorado Springs native won seven state individual titles in four separate events for Palmer High School from 1959-61.
Joining Miller for induction will be current Philadelphia Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel, who led the 1992 Colorado Springs Sky Sox to the Pacific Coast League title, former Colorado College hockey great Doug Palazzari, legendary prep football coach Jim Hartman, high school and NCAA All-American soccer player Andi Melde and the storied Broadmoor Skating Club.
The Colorado Springs World Arena will host the induction ceremonies on Tuesday, Nov. 10, beginning with a reception and blue-chip sports silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 7:00.
