BOULDER GÇô  University of Colorado Nordic skier, Vegard Kjoelhamar, was named the 2009 Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Male Athlete of the Year, the league announced Thursday.

 

The 2009 individual national freestyle champion led the RMISA overall rankings in his first year at Colorado, with three wins and three runner-up finishes.  Kjoelhamar, the 2009 RMISA Most Valuable Nordic Skier also earned first team All-American honors in the freestyle and was a second team All-American after a sixth place finish in the 10K classic at nationals.

 

The RMISA handed out its final awards of the season following the associationGÇÖs spring meetings in Salt Lake City.  DenverGÇÖs Antje Maempel was the Female Athlete of the Year, while her coaches Andy LeRoy and Dave Stewart were named the Western Regional Coaches of the Year.

 

The RMISA also recognized Martin Kroisleitner (New Mexico) and Trond Flagstad (Alaska Anchorage) as the Alpine and Nordic Coaches of the Year, respectively.
