Alumni Wins Fowler Cup

ERIE ? In one of two final tune-ups prior to the NCAA Regionals for the University of Colorado men’s golf team, the Alumni defeated the Varsity, 10?-7?, in the Fourth Annual Fowler Cup at Colorado National Golf Club.

The format was an 18-hole match play, with one point awarded to the winner of the front 9, the back 9 and the full 18.  Three of the five varsity members who are headed to the NCAA West Regional in San Francisco next week played, senior Derek Tolan, junior Luke Symons and freshman Johnny Widmer.  The other two players, senior Patrick Grady and freshman Kevin Kring, did not play as they had other obligations.

All five are participating in the first round of U.S. Open Qualifying this Monday at various locations.  The Buffaloes depart Tuesday for the regional, which takes place at Lake Merced in San Francisco this Thursday through Saturday, May 14-16.  Colorado is one of 13 schools in the event, with the top five advancing to the NCAA Championships Finals May 26-30 in Toledo, Ohio.
