BOULDER - The University of Colorado tennis team will host their second non-conference match this spring season taking on the No. 22 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores, Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House bubble.

First serve is 10 a.m. with the doubles competition, followed by singles. Parking and admission are free and open to the public.

The Buffaloes (1-0) are coming off a 6-1 victory over Air Force last Saturday, and take on the first of 14 nationally ranked opponents on the schedule. Vanderbilt will be playing their first spring match of the season and then travel to the state capitol and play the No. 49 Pioneers on Sunday.

Saturday's matchup features a number of ranked singles and doubles players. Vanderbilt has four singles players in the top-100 with Jackie Wu (No. 29); Catherine Newman (No. 31); Chelsea Preeg (No. 32); and Heather Steinbauer (No. 97).

Vandy also has a pair of doubles tandems in the top-40 with Steinbauer and Erica Robertson (No. 25); along with Preeg and Wu at No. 40. 

Colorado counters with a singles pair in Melisa Esposito (No. 64) and Monica Milewski (No. 90); and in doubles with Milewski and Michala Hedelund Jensen at No. 44.

Vandy is also one of seven SEC schools ranked in the top-25. The history of Vandy tennis is one of the best in the country with 15 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, 11 Sweet 16 placings in the past 12 seasons, and a pair of Final Fours appearances.

A number of CU players rank among the school's top-25 record book among singles victories. Milewski is tied for ninth (76 wins), Esposito is 19th (69), and senior Camila Belassi is tied for 22nd (61).

In doubles, Milewski stands in third place overall (67), Esposito is sixth (65), Belassi is tied for eighth (55), and junior Abbie Probert is 22nd with 42 triumphs.

The Buffs will host nine other matches in 2010 with No. 49 Denver (Feb. 20), Northern Colorado (Mar. 6), and No. 17 South Carolina (Mar. 20) all at the Harvest House.

Outside matches at the South Campus courts include conference foes Missouri (Apr. 3), Kansas State (Apr. 9), Kansas (Apr. 11), No. 37 Texas A&M (Apr. 23) and No. 31 Texas (Apr. 25).
