SANTEE, Calif. GÇö University of Colorado senior Justin Bardgett recorded a second straight 4-over par 76 here Friday in the second round of the NCAA Southwest MenGÇÖs Golf Regional.

With one round remaining, Bardgett is tied for 50th overall in the standings with his 76-76GÇö152 scorecard.  For him to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals he needs to be the top individual finisher not affiliated with the five teams that will automatically qualify; he is 16 strokes out of that position going into the final round, chasing 30 others in the same boat he is in.

He has 25 pars here in 36 holes, tied for the second most in the 75-man field on the 7,360-yard, par-72 Carlton Oaks Golf Club layout.  Ten of those came Friday, with the rest of his round including two birdies and six bogeys.   One of the birdies came on his final hole of the day, the par-4 No. 9, with his other on his sixth hole, No. 15.

GÇ£I didnGÇÖt really get much going, havenGÇÖt caught fire,GÇ¥ Bardgett said.  GÇ£I hit the ball a little better near the end of the round, but overall my ball striking has just been poor.  IGÇÖve been putting well, which has kept me from shooting really high numbers.  If I can fix things off the tee and in my long approaches, I believe I can score low and I have one more chance to do it.

GÇ£I need to shoot in the low-to-mid 60s, but I want to go out and have fun and try and hit a bunch of good shots,GÇ¥ he added.  GÇ£IGÇÖm hoping tomorrow is not (his last round as a collegian), but realistically it could be, barring my best round ever.  But thatGÇÖs possible and thatGÇÖs the attitude IGÇÖm taking into the final round.  Low scores are out there, and I want to find one of them.GÇ¥

GÇ£He knows what he needs to do Saturday,GÇ¥ head coach Roy Edwards said.  GÇ£The main thing now is to try and go out on a high note and have fun.  If thatGÇÖs good enough to catch and pass those in front of him, great; if not, weGÇÖd like to see him play well his final time wearing CU gear.GÇ¥

CSU-Northridge junior Nick Delio is the individual leader with a 71-69GÇö140 scorecard, with UNLVGÇÖs Eddie Olson and OregonGÇÖs Daniel Miernicki both one shot off the lead.  Delio is playing as an individual here and has a four-stroke edge over his nearest current competitor to advance to the finals.  As was the case Thursday in the first round, only two players shot in the 60s, with nine total subpar rounds.  Oregon snapped a four-way tie and moved into the team lead with an 8-over 584 score; California (586), UNLV (588), Augusta State (589) and Tennessee (590) round out the top five, while the other eight teams participating here are 12 to 22 strokes back.

The final round will be played Saturday morning; Bardgett will tee off No. 10 at 10:20 a.m. MDT.
