BOULDER -  Former University of Colorado all-star Jenny Barringer was named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII University Division Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team on Thursday.

This is the third time Barringer has earned the honor as she was a member of the squad in 2008 and '09. The team is selected by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Oviedo, Fla. native earned the honor for her 2009 cross country season. Barringer started out her final campaign by setting the 5.8 kilometer course record at the CU's Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course. She ran a time of 19 minutes, 25 seconds to surpass the previous record of 19:38, which had been held by the former Kara Grgas-Wheeler (now Kara Goucher). Barringer ran the course 57 second faster than the second-place finisher (teammate Allie McLaughlin).

Two weeks later at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational, Barringer won easily as she crossed the finish in 19.50.9, almost 30 seconds ahead of Florida State's Susan Kuijken.

After another two weeks, Barringer finally won the Big 12 individual title that had eluded her for the last three seasons (2005, 06 and 07) as she had been the runner-up three times. She crossed the finish in 20:27.46 well ahead of her competition to win the title. As a team, CU took second just behind Texas Tech.

The NCAA Mountain Region Championship was a similar situation as she had been the runner-up twice before (2006, 07). Once again she didn't disappoint and captured the title (20:29.0), but more importantly to her, the Buffaloes qualified as a team for nationals by defeating TTU 48-53 for the regional title. Barringer was named the Mountain Region Athlete of the Year for her win.

Over the span of Barringer's career, she collected four individual Big 12 titles, four NCAA titles and was also a 13-time All-Big 12 performer and a seven-time All-American (track and cross country combined).

Barringer graduated this past December with degrees in political science and economics. The nine-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll recorded a 3.71 grade point average and was a member of the Dean's List five times while at CU. She was named the USTFCCCA All-Academic Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2006 and '07, as well as a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2008 and '09. She was a member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for cross country and track and field seven times.

The District VII University Division is comprised of NCAA Division I schools from the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
