Bahktiari Named Second Team All-Pac-12

Bakhtiari was named second team All-Pac-12, announced
Monday by the league office after tabulating votes from each of the
12 member head coaches.
Bakhtiari, a native of Burlingham, Calif., is the sole CU
player on the first- or second-team, but five players earned
honorable mention status including offensive guard Ethan
Adkins, defensive end/jack linebacker Josh
Hartigan, cornerback Greg Henderson,
defensive lineman Will Pericak and linebacker
Douglas Rippy.
StanfordGÇÖs Andrew Luck was named the offensive player of the
year with California linebacker Mychal Kendricks named the Pat
Tillman defensive player of the year. Marqise Lee from USC
and DeGÇÖAnthony Thomas from Oregon were the co-freshmen offensive
players of the year and Dion Bailey, a linebacker from USC, the
freshman defensive player of the year. David Shaw of Stanford
was named coach of the year.
Bakhtiari replaced NFL first round draft pick Nate Solder at
left tackle for the Buffs and despite missing the better part of
three games, he graded out to 84.4 percent, the second highest mark
on the team. In 630 offensive snaps, he recorded plus plays
on 532 of them, including 21 great effort blocks and two touchdown
blocks. He allowed just two sacks, three pressures and had
one penalty in those 630 snaps.
Bakhtiari was one of just five sophomores honored on the first
or second teams and the youngest offensive lineman. Of the 10
offensive linemen honored, five were seniors and four juniors,
along with Bakhtiari.
Adkins, a senior from Castle Rock, Colo., graded out the
highest among offensive linemen for the Buffaloes this season at
85.0 percent, playing in 804 of 851 offensive snaps. He had
26 great effort blocks, second most on the team, and totaled two
touchdown blocks. He allowed two sacks, one pressure and had
four penalties in the 804 plays. His season best grade was
91.4 percent against Arizona.
Hartigan, a senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., had eight sacks
on the season and 15 in his career and finished his career with two
sacks at Utah, his fourth career multi-sack game. His 15
career sacks ranks 12th in CU history as he tied his position
coach, Alfred Williams. He finished the season with 31
tackles, seven quarterback pressures, three third down stops and
one pass break-up.
Henderson, a freshman from Corona, Calif., started all 13
games for the Buffaloes as a true freshman replacing two NFL draft
picks in Jimmy Smith and Jalil Brown at cornerback. He played
821 defensive snaps for CU this year, by far the most on the team
and the most for a true freshman on defense in CU history. He
had 58 tackles, recording his first sack in the Utah game, and had
nine pass break-ups and one interception. He forced and
recovered one fumble and had three tackles behind the line of
scrimmage.
Pericak, a junior from Boulder, Colo., played in all 13 games
for the Buffaloes and saw action in 652 defensive plays this year.
He finished the season with 64 tackles and had five third
down stops, eight quarterback pressures and two pass break-ups.
He was in one a half sack and two total tackles for loss.
In CUGÇÖs two wins in its last three games, he had 10 tackles,
three quarterback hurries, a fumble recovery and pass-break-up.
Rippy, a junior from Columbus, Ohio, made honorable mention
despite missing the last six games of the season with a knee
injury. Through the first seven games, he led the team in
tackles with 62 and had back-to-back double digit tackle
performances before being injured at Washington. He had three
sacks and five total tackles for loss, three quarterback pressures
and two third down stops.
