BOULDER - Arthur Jaffee has been named this weekGÇÖs recipient
in ColoradoGÇÖs partnership with WhiteWave to recognize our homegrown
heroes.
The 5th year senior was born and bred to be a Colorado
Buffalo. Jaffee is a Colorado native and he graduated high school
just down the road at Fairview High School. Jaffee has been a Buff
fan for nearly his whole life; his family has had football season
tickets since he was in first grade.
At Fairview he was named Boulder County Player of the Year by
the Boulder Daily Camera as a senior. He overcame a knee injury to
rush for 1,233 yards and 13 touchdowns. Jaffee turned down
several scholarships for an opportunity to walk on the Colorado
football team in 2007.
He joined the team for August drills at tailback but ended up
redshirting his freshman year. The next year Jaffee saw action in
one game, versus West Virginia, and dressed for six others. He
continued to play better into the spring where he led the team in
rushing yards across their three scrimmages. He added up 148 total
yards on 21 carries and looked to contribute for the Buffs anyway
he could.
As a sophomore Jaffee was a key component to several special
teams units. He finished the year second in special team points
with 28 gained from 13 tackles (8 solo) and other specialty plays.
He was honored as one of the teamGÇÖs Gold Group Commitment Award for
his GÇÿexcellence with class in a variety of areasGÇÖ. In spring camp
Jaffee took on a new role with the team, moving from offense to
defense.
Last season he played in all 12 games, and again was an
integral part on special teams. As a junior he led the team in
special team points with 40 including 14 tackles (8 solo) and four
inside-the-20 yard line. He also got the opportunity to return
kicks and made the most of the chance. He returned 14 kickoffs for
a total of 336 yards including an 89 yard return against Iowa
State. He was named CUGÇÖs Special Teams Player of the Game against
Georgia for three crucial plays. For his outstanding play on
special teams Jaffee was given the Bill McCartney Award by the
coaching staff for his special teams achievements over the course
of the entire year.
Although his senior season didnGÇÖt go the way he had planned
Jaffee still found ways to contribute and be a leader for the
Buffs. He suffered a sprained knee against California which
sidelined him for several weeks. Jaffee recorded 17 special teams
point including 4 solo-tackles. He ends his career as one of the
best special teams players for Colorado as he ranks in the top-five
on CUGÇÖs All-Time special team points list.
Jaffee is majoring in Environment Studies. His hobbies include
surfing, wakeboarding and surfing and he also enjoys playing the
guitar and harmonica.
