BOULDER GÇô Boulder resident Sue Burke has been selected as this weekGÇÖs winner of the Sports Authority Hometown Heroes program, a partnership between the University of Colorado and Sports Authority to recognize heroes in the local sports community.  

Burke has been involved with tennis for over four decades on the local, national and international stage.  Along with being a player, she has coached juniors, adults, professionals and amateur athletes.  Through the Sue Burke Foundation, she specializes in helping young people with multiple sclerosis  to have an opportunity in the classroom by making available college scholarships and on the sporting field by encouraging active living.  

She has developed many programs making tennis available to underserved communities.  

She was nominated by CU tennis coach Nicole Kenneally, who says, GÇ£Sue is a true ambassador for the gift of life and the joys of sport and is a gem to the Boulder tennis community as well as the Boulder community as a whole.GÇ¥

Sports Authority and the University of Colorado athletic department are honored to recognize Sue Burke as a Sports Authority Hometown Hero.  As the winner, McCarthy will receive a $100 gift card to Sports Authority, a t-shirt and a certification of merit. Due to NCAA rules and regulations regarding recruiting, any high school aged person (ninth grade and above, or seventh grade and above for boys basketball) and any coach of a high school aged student-athlete are not eligible for this program.
