Barczuk Named WhiteWave Homegrown Hero

BOULDER - Amy Barczuk has been named this weekGÇÖs recipient in
ColoradoGÇÖs partnership with WhiteWave to recognize our homegrown
heroes.
The junior has been a major part of the womenGÇÖs soccer team
since she arrived in Boulder in 2009.
As a freshman she started all 19 games, the only freshman to
do so. Barczuk scored one goal on 19 shots and recorded the second
most minutes for the Buffs (1,607). She was named to the All-Big 12
Conference second team and the Big 12 Conference All-Newcomer
team.
Following a standout freshman season Barczuk took on a
leadership role as sophomore. She played in all 20 matches,
starting in 18 of them. She racked up five points on two goals and
one assist and tying for the lead on the team in shots attempted
(41). She was named to the Big-12 All-Academic All-Conference team.
Just two years into her young career and Barczuk was making a name
for herself on the pitch.
Midway through her junior year Barczuk was invited to the
Under-23 Women's National Soccer Team Camp to train with 20 of the
best players from all around the country.
"It was great exposure as far as playing in front of the full
national team coaching staff,GÇ¥ Barczuk said, GÇ£It kind of gave me an
idea of what I need to do to be consistent at that level, what I
need to do as a player to get to that next step. I'm so happy I got
the opportunity, it was awesome.GÇ¥
She returned from the camp ready to lead the Buffs into their
first season in the Pac-12 conference. Barczuk added up 7 points,
on three goals and one assist. She also helped CU win the inaugural
Colorado Cup. With one more season in her career in Boulder Barczuk
will look to lead the team in the right direction.
Barczuk is majoring in business. Her parents are Mark and Lynn
and she has one sibling, sister Sarah.
