Colorado University Athletics
Seventh 2011-12 Winning Attitude Recipient

BOULDER - CenturyLink, ROOT SPORTS and the University of Colorado have named Northglenn Middle School (Northglenn, Colo.) sixth grader Oriana Noble the seventh Winning Attitude award recipient of 2011-12. Winners are selected from a pool of written essays submitted by Colorado middle school students explaining how their winning attitude has made a difference in their communities.
Noble demonstrates her winning attitude by helping out her community and inspiring others help. Noble has volunteered her time doing garden work for the elderly, picking up trash at the local high school and donating clothes to the less fortunate in her community. Noble states, "I think it is good to help out the community because if one person helps out, more and more people will help. With more people helping one another we can all make the earth a more loving, nurturing, and healthy place."
Northglenn Middle School Principal, Jennifer Edgerley adds, "One of our core beliefs at our school is that we believe social and academic interactions at NGMS must reflect respect, provide for physical and emotional safety, and build and maintain a building-wide learning community. Oriana's essay directly reflects this belief. She realizes one person can make a difference and that it is our collective responsibility to make our school community as well as the world a better place. Oriana's values and actions are exactly those we hope all of our students will learn; she is an excellent role model for all of us and we are all very proud of her accomplishment."
Noble and her classmates will be honored at halftime of the Colorado vs. Wyoming men's basketball game Friday, December 9, with a 7 p.m. tip-off time.
The Winning Attitude essay contest is back for the sixth consecutive year. The program has been developed and sponsored by CenturyLink and ROOT SPORTS in partnership with the University of Colorado to recognize Colorado middle school students that make a difference in their communities by providing outstanding efforts in sportsmanship, community involvement and teamwork.
