Coburn Runs Second Best Mile Time in CU history

Coburn finished the top section of the mile run in 4 minutes, 37.44 seconds, becoming just the second Buff to finish the event in less than 4:40. Prior to this race, her personal best had been 4:42.56. Despite finishing sixth overall, Coburn just missed hitting the NCAA automatic qualifying time in the mile (4:37.00) by less than half a second. She was the fourth best collegiate finisher overall.
Steven Kasica had a good race for CU in the men's 800. He clocked a PR of 1:50.45, the sixth-fastest ever at Colorado. Kasica improved his PR by .05 seconds to place 22nd overall.
The rest of the team finished up the Air Force Invitational at Cadet Field House with several memorable performances at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The Buffs started the day by finishing second and third in the seeded section of the women's mile. Staci Foster was the runner-up and Courtney Bouchet took third. Foster finished with a personal best time of 5:14.79, a little less than 10 seconds behind Mesa State's Alexis Skarda (5:05.32). Bouchet clocked a mark of 5:23.16.
CU had a successful day in the men's 60-meter dash. The Buffs advanced three to the finals after Joe Morris (6.79), Quinton Dodson (6.83) and A.J. Whitaker (6.97) won their respective heats to qualify for the finals later in the afternoon. Morris led the Buffs in the finals and was the top collegiate finisher, placing third with a time of 6.77. Whitaker finished sixth (6.88). Dodson was charged with a false start in the finals so he was unable to score for Colorado. Jeremy Dodson, CU volunteer coach, won the 60 in 6.66.
Several other Buffs placed in the finals on Saturday. Kyle MacIntosh finished sixth in the 400 with a season-best time of 49.33. CU had two men in the 800 finals, both placing in the top-eight. Garrett Carmichael crossed the finish in fourth-place (1:57.04) and Evan Johnston finished eighth overall after finishing the first heat of the finals in 1:58.80.
The women also had a pair of Buffs score in the finals of the 800. Heather Balbier won the event after running a personal best time of 2:18.44, while her teammate Lara Heigis finished eighth (2:22.57).
In the high jump Jake Timmons earned his way into the CU recordbook after clearing a height of 6 feet, 9.75 inches for fourth-place, making him the ninth best performer in CU history. It was the best jump by a Buff since 2003 when Andrew Miller jumped 6-10.75; also at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The CU men finished the meet sixth out of 18 teams with 30 points. The women were 10th (of 24) with 26 points.
The Buffs will have one final tune-up at the Colorado School of Mines Twilight on Friday, Feb. 18, before heading to their final Big 12 Indoor Championship Feb. 25-26.
