Women?s XC Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

BOULDER - The University of Colorado women's cross country team has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team status as announced by the USTFCCCA on Wednesday.
The Buffs placed sixth at the NCAA Championship in November and finished the semester with a 3.282 grade point average. This award comes on the heels of sophomore Laura Tremblay earning individual all-academic honors on Tuesday.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship. Nine of the top ten finishing teams at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic status. Of the 31 teams that participated in the national final, 25 of those earned All-Academic status.
Junior Emma Coburn, a member of the women's cross country and track and field team, was also recognized on Wednesday, earning an award for track from the Sportswomen of Colorado. Coburn had an exceptional year on the track, which was capped off by taking second-place at the 2010 NCAA Championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last June. The Crested Butte, Colo. native finished the race in a personal record time of 9 minutes, 51.86 seconds. She won her first Big 12 Championship in the same event in May, setting a league record in the process (9:56.53).
Coburn also scored for CU at the outdoor championship in the 800-meter run. She placed sixth overall after running the 12th best time (2:09.81) in CU history during the preliminaries. During the indoor season Coburn also led the Buffs. She placed sixth at the league championship in the mile (4:43.87) and helped CU to a fifth-place finish in the distance-medley-relay (11:34.32).
