BOULDER - Since 2005, the University of Colorado women's tennis program has hosted a day-long Tennis Marathon to benefit medical services to local patients with breast cancer.  In August 2010, the Tennis Marathon raised $17,200.

Since the inception of this event, the Tennis Marathon and the tennis community has raised over $90,000 with 900 participants in the first six years to help Boulder County women battling breast cancer.

On the behalf of Etkin Johnson Group, Tennis Marathon participants, sponsors and volunteers, CU women's tennis head coach Nicole Kenneally presented a check to members of the Boulder Community Hospital's Auxiliary, an all-volunteer organization that provides support and assistance to the annual event.

The presentation took place at halftime of the women's basketball game on Feb. 12 between CU and Texas Tech.

Those present to accept the check from Kenneally were Barbara Urbaitis, Vice President for Fundraising; Margie Hutchings, 2011 President; and Judy Heinze, 2010 President.

Title sponsor, Etkin Johnson has renewed their commitment for 2011 to be held August 21 at the Millennium Harvest House.  It is projected the Tennis Marathon will have raised over $100,000 after the 2011 event.

"This is a great community event and we are looking forward to the 2011 event," Kenneally said. "Thank you all for supporting our community!"
