BOULDER - University of Colorado senior Brandin Williams started off the outdoor season with a first-place finish in the javelin at the Potts Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Williams recorded a toss of 199 feet, 9 inches to best runner-up and teammate Brian Owens (185-08) for the top spot. The Buffaloes took the top four positions in the event as Kevin Fasing was third (174-02) and Alex Von Hagen (158-01) took fourth.

Trey Mullen led CU in the men's hammer throw, placing third with a throw of 172-03. Drew Loftin, a Colorado State graduate, won the event with a Potts Field record of 240-05.                                                                                                    

Max Van Dyke paced the Buffs on the women's side with a runner-up finish in the javelin. Van Dyke recorded a toss of 110-00 to earn the best finish by a collegiate athlete in the event. Volunteer assistant coach Emily Pearson won the javelin with a throw of 134-07.

Kellie Lind was the top performer for CU in the women's hammer throw. She recorded a personal best of 142-01 to take sixth overall.

The Potts Invitational will continue on Saturday at Potts Field. Running, jumping and throwing events all start at 11 a.m. A complete schedule is listed below. Admission and parking are free.
