BOULDER - University of Colorado men's basketball head coach Tad Boyle announced Thursday that Jeremy Adams has signed a National Letter of Intent to play with the Buffaloes beginning the 2011-12 academic year.

"Jeremy will really help us fill the void of production we lose from the perimeter," Boyle said. "He is a skilled wing who brings experience and maturity to our team. In addition to that, he has three years of eligibility remaining. We are extremely excited Jeremy Adams is a Buff."

Originally from Madison, Miss., Adams, is a 6'5", 205-pound wing/shooting guard, who averaged 27.2 points and 7.3 rebounds as a senior at Central High School.  He was a Rivals.com three-star prospect when he signed with Texas A&M in the spring of 2009.

After leaving College Station after redshirting as a freshman, Adams then transferred to Navarro Junior College (Texas) where he averaged 12.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game this past winter. He also averaged 1.4 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.

Adams will have three years of eligibility remaining at CU, beginning with the 2011-12 season.

"My dad and I looked at their roster and we saw the opportunity for me to play and make a big impact. That was a big selling point," Adams said on his decision to sign with Colorado. "And then watching them play a few games this past season was another selling point. They were really competitive and play an up-tempo style. That sold me.

"I want to go somewhere that I felt I could continue to improve more than I would at Texas A&M," Adams said. "I liked it at Texas A&M, and it was a tough decision to leave. But I think everything has worked out well for me."

Navarro assistant coach Eric Colbert, a former assistant at Nebraska, said Adams' best days are ahead of him.

"He's a great kid with a solid mid-range game," Colbert said. "He can finish against Big 12 competition -- or I should say the Pac-12 now that they're changing conferences. He's a stronger body shooting guard. He made a transition from always being the scorer in high school without much around him to learning to play with other guys. He learned to get off the basketball and do other things."

Adams said he plans to be on campus at Colorado and enrolled in school for the summer sessions.

"I talked to [Buffaloes] head coach [Tad] Boyle last week and he said I will play on the perimeter at the two or the three," Adams said. "I am pretty good defensively and offensively. I think I can bring some toughness on the court and bring some energy and excitement.

"I want to get to know the school, the town and the players," Adams added. "I want to get there and work really hard and get ready for the start of practice in the fall."

Adams is the fourth member of the CU 2011-12 recruiting class that includes three Californians, 6'4" point guard Spencer Dinwiddie (Taft HS/Woodland Hills), 6'1"guard Askia Booker (Price HS/Los Angeles), and 6'7" power forward Damiene Cain (Harvard Westlake HS/North Hollywood).

Also joining the Buffs next season will be 6'5" Carlon Brown (Riverside, Calif.), a senior-transfer from the University of Utah and 6'3" junior guard Sabatino Chen (Louisville, Colo.) from the University of Denver. Both sat out during the 2010-11 season per NCAA transfer rules.

Brown averaged 12.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in 2009-10 as a junior for the Utes, and Chen averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds with the Pioneers from 2008-10. Brown has one year remaining, Chen will have two years with the Buffs.
