Colorado joins one of the nationGÇÖs most prestigious conferences in menGÇÖs golf, producing 14 NCAA team championships, the most recent coming from UCLA in 2008. Stanford leads the Pac-10 with eight NCAA team titles. Eleven different student-athletes have combined for 14 NCAA individual titles from the Pac-10. This group includes three-time individual champion Phil Mickelson who won in 1989, 1990, and 1992 for Arizona State. Tiger Woods of Stanford won the NCAA championship in 1996. USC won its league-best 19th Pac-10 championship this past spring. Arizona State is second with 12 Pac-10 team titles, and Stanford is third with seven. Washington, Pac-10 champions in 2009 and 2010, is fourth with six league crowns. This past season CU competed in various tournaments also attended by all Pac-12 teams except Washington State. The Buffs tied for fifth at the Wyoming Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz., finishing behind second-place Arizona and ahead of fellow Pac-12 schools Oregon State (ninth) and Utah (t-15th). The 2012 MenGÇÖs Pac-12 Golf Championship will be hosted by Oregon State and played at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis. |
CU In The Pac-12... M Golf Coach Roy EdwardsGÇÖ Take: GÇ£WeGÇÖre going into an exciting conference GÇô by far the best golf conference in the country. YouGÇÖve got schools that have produced Tom Watson, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Craig Stadler, Hale Irwin . . . the list goes on.
Our sport is dominated by good weather teams, and the vast majority of the Pac-12 has very good weather. For the past couple of years, nine of the 10 Pac-10 teams have made it to the NCAAs. The only team not to make it was Washington State, and if they didnGÇÖt have a bad conference event (tournament) this year all 10 teams would have been in. Arizona State is very good, UCLA is extremely good and USC always is extremely competitive. This year all of the teams in the conference were very young. One of our goals every year is to make the NCAAs...no matter the league, that should be a goal. I think with the guys coming back and our new guys, we should be competitive. ItGÇÖll be a challenge for us, but we expect to be in there and reach our goals.GÇ¥ Pac-12 Spotlight content provided by B.G.
