BOULDER GÇô University of Colorado senior Katie Hartman was
named the skiing Primetime Performer of the Week by
CollegeSports360, a weekly selection singling out top performances
by Division I athletes in current sports.
Hartman is one of nine athletes honored this week, which also
include Karlee Bispo (Texas, swimming), Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma
State, football), Skylar Diggins (Notre Dame, basketball),
Katherine Grabe (Arkansas, gymnastics), Connor Knapp (Miami Ohio,
hockey), Carmen MacDonald (St. Larwrence, hockey), Chris Perry
(Oklahoma State, wrestling) and Jordan Theodore (Seton Hall,
basketball).
Hartman edged out UtahGÇÖs Nick Cohee for the weekly honor for
skiing, who also made the honor roll.
Selection for the CollegeSports360 weekly awards are based not
solely based on raw stats, but other issues are taken into
consideration, including quality, ranking and if the opponent is a
rival, if the participant showed strong leadership or had a clutch
performance and if they overcame adversity.
Hartman opened the 2012 season this past weekend at Eldora by
winning the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association giant
slalom race at the University of Colorado/Spencer Nelson Memorial
Invitational. She then finished third in the GS race the next
day that was part of the official meet.
Her performance is especially impressive given the fact that
she is 11 months removed from a catastrophic knee injury she
sustained the race after she won the Super G Gold Medal at the
World University Games last year. She was afforded an extra
year of eligibility after receiving a medial hardship and returned
for her fifth season in 2012.
Hartman and the Buffs return to the slopes Wednesday and
Thursday for slalom races at Breckenridge before this weekendGÇÖs
Denver Invitational at Winter Park.
