BOULDER--Ben Berkley's continual promotion of good
sportsmanship and team unity earns him this week's hometown
hero.
Berkley spends most of his week nights coaching youth soccer
and hockey. He is most notably known for his encouragement of
having fun in either practice or a game. The most desirable trait
in a coach is the ability to make not only better players on the
field, rink, or court, but to make them better for the future--
Berkley has just that. He has left a great impact on not only his
players, but their families as well.
Berkley can be heard encouraging, praising and correcting his
team with an eye to fairness, gentleness, and good sportsmanship.
His love for being involved in the world of athletics has made
parents honored to have their child on his team. Berkley's ability
to ensure everyone is having fun while competing has encouraged
members of his team to be better at whatever they
pursue.
Ben is nominated by Steve Warren who says, "It is an honor to
know a man who is so dedicated and willing to encourage youth in
this way."
Sports Authority and the University of Colorado athletic
department are honored to recognize Berkley as a Sports Authority
Hometown Hero. As the winner, he will receive a $100 gift
card to Sports Authority, a t-shirt and a certification of
merit.
Due to NCAA rules and regulations regarding recruiting, any
high school aged person (ninth grade and above, or seventh grade
and above for boys basketball) and any coach of a high school aged
student-athlete are not eligible for this program.
