BOULDER--Gerald Sloan goes above and beyond for his youth
football team. His outstanding efforts earn him this weekGÇÖs
hometown hero.
Sloan is a full time Denver Police Officer, but he doesnGÇÖt use
his busy schedule as an excuse--ever. Instead, as soon as he is off
of work he goes straight to coach his youth football team, The Pal
Hawks. Sloan serves not only as the head coach, but as a key role
model in his teamGÇÖs lives. Many of his team is made up of single
mothers and low income families. In knowing that, Sloan has often
used his own money to help with registration or equipment
fees.
As a selfless coach, Sloan has often been the only positive
male figure for some of the children on his team. He is an epitome
of a leader. His dedication to his football team and community is
astounding.
Gerald Sloan is nominated by Nancy Alvear who proudly says,
GÇ£If a child is having a problem, he will always take time out from
his day to sit down and talk with them and help out in whatever way
he can. Coach is a great example and a positive role
model.GÇ¥
Sports Authority and the University of Colorado athletic
department are honored to recognize Sloan as a Sports Authority
Hometown Hero. As the winner, he will receive a $100 gift
card to Sports Authority, a t-shirt and a certification of
merit.
Due to NCAA rules and regulations regarding recruiting, any
high school aged person (ninth grade and above, or seventh grade
and above for boys basketball) and any coach of a high school aged
student-athlete are not eligible for this program.
