Lockridge Honored At Sugar Bowl
Lockridge, along with the other 21 student-athletes named to the AFCA Good Works Team, surprised more than 150 children from the YMCA of Greater New Orleans with a football clinic the day before the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Each member of the team coached a small group of kids through a "mini-camp" of various drills and assisted in playing games of two-hand touch football.
"That was the most joyful time I had on the trip," Lockridge said of his time spent with children at the football clinic. "There were a lot of kids in my group and I definitely enjoyed hanging out with them; it was fun, it was a real honor to do that and to be in the position where I could reach out to kids. It was an honor and I was real blessed to do it."
The following day, at halftime of Michigan's victory over Virginia Tech, Lockridge and the rest of the award winners were recognized and presented with plaques midfield at the Superdome. "It was a great honor to be there in front of all those people, but not just that, being recognized for something I love doing. It was great; I really enjoyed it," Lockridge said.
132 players, a program record, were nominated for the Good Works Team this past summer before a special voting panel selected 22 student-athletes, 11 from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III, and the NAIA.
Lockridge, who graduated in December 2011 with a degree in communications, already has a corporate sales position with Vitaulic and works out of Phoenix, Ariz. While at CU, he also earned his license in commercial real estate.
Throughout Lockridge's time at Colorado, he was a mainstay in the Boulder community. Originally from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Lockridge was a student-athlete representative to CU's Boulder Faculty Assembly and a member of CU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. As a four-plus year board member of SAAC, Lockridge helped organize CU's Read With The Buffs and Buffalo Hugs programs.
Off-campus, his involvement included Casa De Esperanza in Longmont, Colo., an afterschool program for children of migrant workers where he helped with reading, math and other homework assignments. Lockridge also regularly served as a cook at the Boulder Homeless Shelter, in addition to many one-time community service projects.
On the field, Lockridge rushed for 412 yards and three touchdowns in his CU career and was named the Buffs' Offensive Player of the Week after carrying 14 times for 109 yards in a 31-13 win over Hawai'i on Sept. 18, 2010. During his senior season of 2011, Lockridge moved to defensive back and recorded a quarterback sack against Washington State in his first game following the position switch.
He is Colorado's fourth Good Works Team honoree joining Derek West in 1992, Robbie Robinson in 2001 and George Hypolite in 2007.
