Slalom Races Rescheduled For CU Invitational

BOULDERGÇöThe slalom portion of the University of
Colorado/Spencer Nelson Memorial Invitational have been rescheduled
for Wednesday and Thursday in Breckenridge, CU head coach Richard
Rokos announced Monday.
The races originally were to take place Sunday at the Eldora
Mountain Resort, CUGÇÖs home course, but were cancelled due to the
unfavorable conditions.
The rescheduled races will be part of the Colorado Ski Cup
Surefoot series in Breckenridge, Colo., on the Upper Cimarron run
with the women racing Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. and the men
following suit Thursday at the same time.
The two races will conclude the alpine portion of the CU
Invitational, with Nordic action set to take place Friday and
Saturday in Steamboat Springs. FridayGÇÖs freestyle races will
be an interval start, 5-kilometers for the women and 10-kilometers
for the men.
CU Nordic coach Bruce Cranmer also announced Monday that due
to the conditions of the snow, SaturdayGÇÖs classical races will be
5-kilometers shorter than originally announced. The mass
start race will now be 10-kilometers for the women and
15-kilometers for the men.
While the Nordic action of the CU Invitational is taking place
in Steamboat Springs, the start of the Denver Invitational will be
happening in Winter Park with more alpine action. The
schedule for Winter Park is giant slalom races on Saturday and
slalom on Sunday.
The DU meet will then conclude the following weekend at
DevilGÇÖs Thumb Ranch Nordic Ski Center in Tabernash, Colo., near
Winter Park with Nordic races. At that point, the season will
be one-third complete and the skiers will then head to Alaska for a
pair of meets.
