COACH ELLIOTT ON GAMBITSKY: "Sophia is a tough
player mentally and physically. She is athletic in the cage and
brings consistency in her play. Sophia is a true competitor and
risk taker. We are excited to have Sophia in our family and to help
anchor our defensive unit."
HIGH SCHOOL: Gambitsky was a four-year
letter-winner, three-time Scholar Athlete and two-time All-County
honoree at Wantagh. In her final season, she was her teamGÇÖs
captain. Gabitsky helped lead the Warriors to the Class B Division
Championship her junior year and the semi-finals in 2010, 2012 and
2013. The Warriors earned a National School Girls Tournament
Championship. Gambitsky has also played for the Long Island Yellow
Jackets (2009-10) and Long Island Liberty (2011-12) lacrosse clubs
and was a two-year letter-winner in cross country.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Gambitsky will enter CU as an
open option, but is interested in occupational therapy.
PERSONAL: Sophia Rose Gambitsky was born on June
28, 1995 to teachers Ed and Beth Gambitsky. She comes from a family
of lacrosse players. Her father played at North Carolina State, and
her brother Jake plays at Harvard. She has worked as a counselor at
Dance Barn summer camp. She enjoys art, pilates, outdoor activities
and the music of Mumford and Sons and Of Monsters and Men. She is a
fan of Long Island bagels and the New York Giants. She chose CU
over Ivy League schools like Pennsylvania and Dartmouth because she
said the minute she stepped on campus she fell in love with the
atmosphere, location and reputation.
